When a client planning a project at Suntec City, Singapore reached out to us, the opportunity was both exciting and demanding. The client had secured a 950-square-meter space inside a major shopping mall and wanted to create an indoor playground that could stand out in one of Singapore’s most competitive commercial environments.
Their initial idea was clear: to develop an innovative indoor playground that would attract families, integrate smoothly into the mall ecosystem, and meet strict local safety requirements. From the start, this project was positioned as a destination-level indoor playground rather than a simple play corner.

For this indoor playground idea at Suntec City, Singapore, the main challenge was not space or budget, but safety compliance. The client emphasized that local safety audits were extremely strict and asked whether the playground equipment could meet internationally recognized standards.
Before discussing themes or play elements, we focused on certification requirements, material fire resistance, and how documentation could support local approval. During communication, we clarified that if existing certifications were insufficient, additional standards such as ASTM D1929 and NFPA 253 could be applied for to support the project’s implementation.

After reviewing the first round of design visuals, the client requested a more three-dimensional layout. They wanted different levels of play equipment to interact with each other rather than remain visually separated.
In response, we reworked the overall layout by introducing multi-level play structures, creating connected routes between floors, and improving spatial efficiency. This approach expanded the playable area without increasing density and enhanced the overall visual depth.
To improve the family experience, a parent café area was added in one corner of the playground, allowing caregivers to rest while maintaining clear sightlines across the play zones.
The final design adopted a macaroon-themed concept with a pastel color palette. The colors were carefully selected to be attractive without overwhelming, making the playground suitable for a high-traffic shopping mall environment.
After reviewing the final design and layout, the client shared their feedback:
“This macaroon-themed indoor playground strikes an excellent balance between visual appeal and practical layout. The pastel color palette is attractive without being overwhelming, and the zoning is well planned to manage different age groups smoothly.”

This Suntec City project highlights several important lessons for shopping mall indoor playgrounds in Singapore. Addressing safety certification early prevents delays, while vertical design increases play value without expanding the footprint. Clear zoning improves both child experience and operational control, and dedicated parent areas enhance overall dwell time within the mall.

Designing an indoor playground inside a shopping mall involves more than selecting equipment. Layout logic, safety documentation, and long-term operation all influence whether a project can move forward smoothly. If you are currently evaluating a mall-based indoor playground in Singapore or nearby regions, understanding these factors early can make a significant difference.
