As the Lead Interior Designer at Lemfun, my objective is never merely to fill a space with equipment, but to curate an immersive narrative through spatial planning and thematic integrity. For our latest project, CHILDLIKE, located at Shop 1029, Discovery Park, Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong, the mandate was to create a visceral, sensory-rich environment. Below, I outline the design journey of this 450sqm facility, detailing how we transformed a standard retail footprint into a high-functioning Candy themed playground.

The client approached us with a clear vision for the Shop 1029, Discovery Park site. They required a comprehensive indoor playground that catered to a dual demographic: toddlers requiring soft safety zones and school-aged children seeking high-energy engagement. The requested theme was "Candy"—a classic aesthetic that demands high saturation and "edible" visuals.
However, the client also demanded a rigorous variety of attractions, specifically requesting a maze play area, a kids' ball pool, a trampoline zone, a role-play section, and a dedicated soft play area. At Lemfun, we pride ourselves on versatility. While we recently garnered attention for designing a Space Themed Playcenter Indoor Play Park in Mexico, showcasing our ability to handle sci-fi and industrial aesthetics, this project required us to pivot to the opposite end of the spectrum: soft pastels, rounded organic shapes, and a warm, inviting color palette. The brief was not just about decoration; it was about integrating these diverse play elements into a cohesive, non-chaotic layout.

Designing for a 450sqm footprint in a high-traffic location like Discovery Park, Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong presents specific spatial challenges. We had to ensure optimal circulation flow to prevent bottlenecks between the high-activity zones (like the trampoline area) and the low-velocity zones (like role play).
The primary constraint was fitting the massive infrastructure of a multi-level maze and a trampoline park without making the ceiling height feel oppressive. Furthermore, a Candy theme requires distinct color theory application; if not balanced correctly, the vibrancy can become visually overwhelming. We needed to utilize vertical space efficiently while maintaining clear sightlines for parental supervision—a non-negotiable safety aspect in family entertainment center (FEC) design. The challenge was to deliver a layout as detailed and logical as a popular space themed indoor play area proposal, but translated into the whimsical language of sweets and confectionery.

Our solution for CHILDLIKE centered on "Zoned Immersion." We utilized the 450sqm by creating a central circulation path that branches off into distinct "flavor" zones, ensuring the Candy theme was the connective tissue holding the complex equipment together.

The Maze Play Area:
We anchored the site with a multi-level maze structure designed to resemble a towering candy castle. Instead of standard industrial piping, we utilized custom cladding to mimic icing and licorice twists. This structure serves as the kinetic heart of the playground, featuring spiral slides disguised as chocolate swirls and transparent bridges that allow light to filter through, maintaining an airy atmosphere within the Discovery Park unit.
The "Sugar Rush" Trampoline Area:
To maximize safety and aesthetics, the trampoline zone was integrated into the rear of the facility. We utilized high-density, impact-absorbing padding in gradient shades of pink and teal. This area is designed for high-impact energy expenditure, featuring angled bounce walls and integrated basketball hoops, all strictly adhering to ASTM safety standards while maintaining the sugary visual motif.
Kids Ball Pool:
Centrally located, the ball pool acts as a transitional soft zone. We selected a color mix of pearlescent white, pastel pink, and baby blue balls to simulate a bowl of sweets. This area includes interactive projection walls where children can "throw" balls at digital candy targets, merging physical play with digital interactivity. The slide entering the pool is designed with wide, smooth contours to accommodate multiple children simultaneously.
Sweet Street Role Play Area:
This section focuses on cognitive and social development. We designed miniature architectural structures resembling a candy shop, a bakery, and a supermarket. The aesthetic here shifts to slightly more grounded tones to encourage focus. Custom joinery was used to create kid-sized counters and shelving, stocked with high-fidelity prop food. This area provides a quiet respite from the physical exertion of the maze, allowing for imaginative play.
Toddler Soft Play:
Located nearest to the entrance of Shop 1029, this zone is strictly for the under-3 demographic. We utilized high-grade memory foam for flooring and obstacles. The design features low-profile climbing mounds shaped like marshmallows and gummies, ensuring that even if a toddler stumbles, the impact is absorbed entirely.

The CHILDLIKE project at Discovery Park, Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong stands as a testament to Lemfun’s ability to merge rigorous spatial planning with whimsical aesthetics. By carefully delineating the 450sqm space into high-energy and imaginative zones, we successfully delivered a Candy themed environment that is both operationally efficient and visually stunning. This project proves that whether we are executing a futuristic concept or a sweet-tooth wonderland, the core principles of flow, safety, and immersive design remain paramount.
